About the Hosting Team

The WordPress Hosting Team consists of experienced professionals dedicated to bridging the gap between WordPress and hosting environments. Our members include system administrators, hosting providers, plugin developers, and server infrastructure experts who are passionate about optimizing WordPress performance and reliability in production environments.

The Hosting Team Mission

Hosting Team members are typically professionals in the web hosting industry; system administrators, support technicians, software engineers, plugin developers, etc., who are invested in supporting a relationship between WordPress and WordPress web hosts.

The team’s goals and projects are focused on facilitating collaboration between the WordPress Open Source Project and Web Hosts, through distributed testing on hosting systems and documentation on best practices as applicable to hosting WordPress.

The Hosting Team believes that great hosting experiences enable WordPress to thrive. The team works to:

  • **Maintain testing software for Hosts to test server compatibility with new versions of WordPress
  • Publish authoritative documentation on hosting best practices, server configurations, and environment recommendations for WordPress deployments
  • Maintain compatibility guides that help hosting providers and site owners understand which server environments work best with each WordPress release
  • Monitor and evaluate new PHP versions, databases (MySQL/MariaDB), and web servers to ensure WordPress compatibility and performance
  • Provide technical resources that help the WordPress community make informed decisions about their hosting infrastructure
  • Advocate for WordPress within the hosting industry and represent hosting needs within the broader WordPress project

What the Hosting Team Does

The Hosting Team focuses on end to end distributed hosting tests, providing documentation on best practices for hosting WordPress, and guidance on hosting WordPress, available tools, and server environment recommendations (such as PHP, database, and web server).

Everyone is welcome! This may include folks hosting WordPress, interested in learning more about hosting WordPress or folks working directly with WordPress hosts, such as System Engineers, System Architects, DevOps Engineers and Developers that are working on core, plugins, or themes.

When does the Hosting team meet?

The Hosting Team meets in the WordPress Slack, in the #hosting channel. The conversations are in English. Check out the WordPress Meeting calendar for the current schedule.
